Conservative Party eco-town press release
April 3 2008
A press release from Conservative Party Shadow Housing Minister Grant Shapps about the recent shortlist of 15 proposed eco-towns
'Yet more eco-spin from Labour'
Commenting on the 15 locations short-listed to become new eco towns in England, Shadow Housing Minister, Grant Shapps, said:
“This is eco-spin masquerading as new Labour policy. The Government have blindly pushed ahead ignoring the voice of local communities, forcing development into unsuitable areas in a vain attempt to meet Gordon Brown’s flawed building targets
“We are in favour of genuine eco measures. However, many of these proposals have already been rejected as standard sites but now they are supposed to have been magically transformed into green sustainable developments.
“It is time the Government followed our lead and let communities decide where homes should be built rather than forcing development on areas through Whitehall-driven targets.”
